We all want natural, healthy, glowing skin. At Sanctum, we believe Certified Organic products are a must, but there are many additional factors that can affect how your skin can look and feel including diet, time, climate, hormones and genetics. Working with our medicinal chemists and product development team, we put together 6 quick tips you can take now, to help give your skin an immediate boost.

1. Water

Stay hydrated. Drinking enough water daily is important for overall health, aiding digestion, circulation and absorption, but it’s also great for your skin. Water is essential to maintain optimum skin moisture and deliver essential nutrients to the skin cells. It replenished the skin tissue and increases its elasticity. This helps delay the appearance of signs of aging like wrinkles and fine lines. Aim to drink 1 – 2 litres of water a day. That’s approximately 6 – 8 glasses. If you find tap water too bland, start with a glass of water and lemon first thing in the morning, which can boost metabolism too. Keep a bottle of water with lemon, mint, cucumber or lime handy in your bag. A soda stream is a great way to spice up your H2O with a bit of fizz, as are herbal teas which can help keep your caffeine intake low and your water consumption high.

2. Regime

Work out what skin care regime and products work best for you, and then commit to a skincare regime daily. Sanctum’s certified organic skin care range is created using only the finest natural ingredients including potent plant extracts and vitamins to nourish, hydrate and heal your skin. Ingredients like richly nourishing Macadamia seed oil, soothing Aloe Vera gel and calming Calendula flower work in harmony with your skin. The range includes specially designed products for oily, normal and mature skin as well as products formulated for the most sensitive faces. If you are unsure of which skin type you are visit one of our stockists or contact our customer service team who will run through a quick Q&A.

3. Skin Food

Add these skin loving foods into your diet to aid your kin from the inside and pump up your natural glow. Brazil nuts are rich in selenium, which increases skin elasticity and, according to recent studies, may decrease skin cancer. Walnuts are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids which lower inflammation and put the brakes on breakouts. Macadamia nuts aid skin repair and rejuvenation. Lycopene-rich foods including tomatoes, watermelon, grapefruit, papaya, asparagus and red cabbage can help reduce redness caused from sun exposure, prevent future wrinkling and can even lower the risk of skin cancer. Avocados and fatty fish like salmon, mackerel and herring are excellent foods for healthy skin. Healthy fats and omega-3 fatty acids are important for keeping the skin flexible and moisturised. Get eating.

4. Remove

We are very sure your mother told you this one, and yes it still applies. Remove your make up before you sleep. It’s a good idea to remove make up before you exercise too. Your skin transpires and perspires when you exercise, and balances and detoxes when you sleep. If you keep your makeup on, these natural processes still occur, but with product in the mix. That’s a recipe for blocked pores, black heads and acne. Even with organic and natural make up. So cleanse! Sanctum cleansers are gentle and pure with extracts of Yucca Cactus and Oak bark that remove dirt and excess sebum leaving your skin clean and fresh.

5. Sunscreen

Ninety percent of wrinkles are from sun exposure. It’s much easier to prevent the damage than it is to fix it after. Wearing sunscreen is the single easiest way to prolong healthy, glowing skin and look younger for life. That means no slacking off during winter months too. Look for a formula that offers broad-spectrum protection to guard against UVA rays (the ones that cause premature ageing) and the UVB rays (one of the main causes of skin cancer). Choose a non-nano zinc oxide sunscreen to get the most natural alternative. You can also find protection specific to your skin type, and integrate it into your morning skin regime. Another handy tip is to keep a spare bottle in your car, so when the last minute outdoor activities come up, you don’t have to do without.

6. Sleep

Your body boosts blood flow to the skin while you snooze, which means you wake with a healthy glow. Skimp on sleep and your complexion can look drab, ashen and lifeless. Sleep deprivation causes a decrease in blood flow to the skin surrounding your face. The key to looking and feeling good long terms, is making sure you get enough shut-eye. That’s 7 – 9 quality hours each night. Set a sleep routine, ideally 10pm to 6am. Turn off screens and bright lights half an hour before you go to bed. Practice meditation and try not to reach for your phone as soon as you wake. Think fewer wrinkles, less stress, brighter eyes, a glowing complexion and a happier, healthier you.
